Functional analysis of potential biomarkers in cancer
Many biomarkers of cancer cells are likely to have a biological function beneficial to the cancer cells. In this programme scientists seek to reveal the biological functions of potential cancer biomarkers and their impact to cell growth and migration.
The joint activities of basic scientists, biostatisticians and translational cancer researchers in CCB will lead to the identification of a number of genes and gene products that are potential biomarkers in cancer. The objective of this scientific programme is to perform detailed biological studies of such potential biomarkers, and to validate their potential clinical utility as prognostic or diagnostic markers.
Central activities in this programme
- Identification of potential biomarkers for cancer using genetic and epigenetic approaches
- Functional characterization of biomarker proteins in cellular assays
- Validation of the prognostic value of potential biomarkers in clinical samples
