Human Frontier Science Program - Fellowships

The Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) funds frontier research on the complex mechanisms of living organisms. Upcoming deadline for application registration is 10th August 2017.

Key elements of HFSP’s mission

The Human Frontier Science Program Organization (HFSPO) supports innovative basic research into fundamental biological problems, with emphasis placed on novel approaches that cross disciplinary boundaries. The HFSP fellowship program strongly supports frontier, potentially transformative (‘out-of-the-box’) proposals and encourages applications for high-risk projects. The projects should be interdisciplinary in nature and should challenge existing paradigms by using novel approaches and techniques. Scientifically, they should address an important problem or a barrier to progress in the Field.

Fellowships

HFSPO offers 3-year postdoctoral fellowships to be carried out in a foreign country. There are two international postdoctoral programs:

  • Long-Term Fellowships (LTF) are for applicants with a Ph.D. in a biological discipline.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Fellowships (CDF) are for applicants with a Ph.D. from outside the life sciences (e.g. in physics, chemistry, mathematics, engineering or computer sciences) who have not worked in a biological field before.

Who can apply?

Candidate who is a national of one of the supporting countries can apply to work in a research institution in any country.A candidate who is not a national from one of the supporting countries may apply to work only in a research institution in one of the supporting countries.

Eligible candidates have a PhD to be conferred by Dec 31st 2018, or a PhD degree that was conferred in the tree years prior to the submission deadline. Some PhD carreer interruption periods are eligible for extension of this period. Applicants must have at least one lead author, full-length research paper.

What will be funded?

The fellowship is awarded for three years. It covers living allowance, child allowance, parental leave allowance, research and travel allowance, and relocation allowance.
