A main emphasis has been epidemiological studies on osteoporosis and osteoporotic fractures. Numerous risk factors also important for other diseases have been studied as well, including BMI, physical activity, smoking, vitamin D and other nutritional factors. This has led to studies focusing on obesity, cardiovascular diseases, mortality, arthritis and cancer. The interplay between risk factors and how risk factors act on the population lever have also been studied. A broad spectrum of study designs, including randomized controlled trials, prospective cohort-studies, case-control studies and cross-sectional studies have been utilised. Numberous studies have been done in non-western immigrant populations studying risk factors, cardiovascular disease risk, vitamin D and bone Health.
