Marjolein de Boer is a Scientia Postdoctoral Fellow. Her main field of research is female embodiment in situations of illness and medicalization. Within her research, she combines theoretical philosophical insights with qualitative social scientific research methods.

In her PhD thesis, entitled ‘Extended bodies. An empirical-philosophical study to women’s bodily experiences in breast cancer’, she explores how women’s bodily breast cancer experiences are shaped within and through their lived contexts.

Her current postdoc project, titled ‘Bearing a barren body’, explores bodily experiences in In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) treatment and how such experiences are influenced and co-determined by cultural representations surrounding this medical intervention.
