About Centre for Global Health

The Centre for Global Health is established to coordinate and facilitate educational and scientific activities related to global health. The Centre aims to contribute to the strengthening of the interdisciplinary cooperation internally at the University of Oslo and with other central actors that work on global health.

The overall aim of the Centre for Global Health is to establish, and offer a network and hub for scientists with activities and interest in global health within education and research, both at the University of Oslo and in collaboration with national and international scientists and institutions.

The Centre for Global Health shall map existing global health research activities at the Faculty of Medicine and with other relevant institutions and departments at the University of Oslo. Building on pre-existing knowledge of and experience in global health, it will work to further strengthen the global research networks in addition to attracting strong international and national partners in related areas of research.

The Centre for Global Health actively participates in The Norwegian Forum for Global Health Research, and in the development of the newly founded Norwegian Research School of Global Health. Furthermore, the Centre for Global Health in cooperation with the Norwegian Institute of Public Health is involved in the establishment of the Norwegian Institute of Global Health (NIGH), a virtual national global health institute.

Goals

  1. Strengthen and coordinate the Faculty of Medicine’s global health research initiatives related to applications and cross-disciplinary collaboration
  2. Strengthen the Faculty's ability to participate in national and international research programmes in global health
  3. Strengthen institutional collaboration with partners in the South and with national and international organisations
  4. Provide a deeper resource base for the Medical Faculty’s educational and research programmes in global Health
