About the Commission
The Lancet-UiO Commission: Global Governance for Health is an independent academic research initiative managed in collaboration with Harvard Global Health Institute.
The Commission was established as a result of deliberations between Richard Horton, Editor of the Lancet, Dean Julio Frenk, Harvard School of Public Health, Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Støre and Ole Petter Ottersen, Rector at the University of Oslo.
Over the next two years, the Commission shall examine aspects of governance, at both national and global levels, within all arenas that impact health directly, or through the health sector. The aim is to go ‘beyond the consensus’ and propose recommendations on how to solve controversial challenges related to effective protection and promotion of public health in selected key policy-making domains.
The new research and analysis to bear on these questions will be published in an extensive report in The Lancet in August 2013 and the recommendations will also be presented at the United Nations General Assembly in 2013.
