Behavioural Medicine

Behavioural medicine is a multidisciplinary field that investigates the relationship between behaviour, lifestyle, and health outcomes. It examines how psychological, social, and environmental factors influence physical and mental well-being. Through research and interventions, behavioural medicine aims to promote positive health outcomes, prevent illness, and enhance overall well-being.

We study

  • Communication in Health Care: We study communication in health care in general and in cancer care and medical education in particular. This research includes studies of emotional communication, information provisioning, patient perspectives, and communication skills training and clinical applications.
  • Mind-Brain Interactions: We study the cognitive and neural basis of mental processes, the impact of social interactions on health, the genetic architecture of brain structures in relation to disorders, and the effects of sleep deprivation. Our research also covers gut-brain interactions, cognitive control processes influenced by social factors, and the valuation of sensory stimuli.

  • Psychosocial Aspects of Somatic Disease: We study the interplay between psychological, biological, and social factors in patients with chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, sleep disorders, depression, and cancer. Thereby we aim to improve health and quality of life.

  • Health of Health Care Professionals: We study mental health and work among medical students and physicians, with a special focus on longitudinal studies on work, mental health, substance abuse, and intervention studies. Our aim is to identify potential risk factors, develop effective interventions to improve mental health and resilience and maintain high standards in research methods.

  • Learning Environment in Medical Education: We study the learning environment in medical education with a focus on teamwork, learning analytics, and psychological health. Our goal is to establish a system for quality improvement, enhancing student performance, well-being, trust, and psychological safety.
