Research at NSSF

One of the most important tasks at the National Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention (NSSF) is to conduct research. The main goal of this research is to acquire new and high quality knowledge about suicidal behavior with and without fatal outcome, as well as about factors, circumstances, and/or conditions that can lead to high risk for these kinds of behaviors. Suicidology is an interdisciplinary science, and there is broad agreement that suicidal behavior and self-harm can be explained from several points of view: biological/genetic factors, mental illness, cognitive/behavioral skills, negative life events as well as societal and cultural conditions.
