Epigenetics of immune mediated disorders – a twin study
This project aims at identifying disease associated epigenetic variation involved in the pathogenesis of various immune mediated diseases like psoriasis and asthma.
About the project
We have collected peripheral blood from twin pairs discordant for such diseases and have performed cell sorting to obtain pure cell populations of various lymphocyte subpopulations (CD4+, CD8+, B-cells, Tregs). From these subpopulations we have performed ChIP-Seq as well as DNA methylation analysis (bisulphite sequencing, Illumina arrays). This is an ongoing project and some of the results so far are the basis of PhD student Kristina Gervin’s recently submitted PhD thesis. The project is funded by the Functional Genomics (FUGE) programme in Research Council Norway as well as Southeastern Regional Health Authorities.
