Use of volunteer mentors in drug treatment

Social isolation can make recovery from addiction more difficult.

About the project

In this project we investigate the effect of voluntary mentors for patients who lack social support during their attempts to maintain abstinence.

A qualitative study has been conducted in collaboration with psychology student Marit Ottermo and the project manager at Blue Cross Step by Step, Petter Solberg.

The study looks at the different conditions needed for building relationships and changing drug behaviour including specific vs. general alliance factors, mentors and patient responsibility models.
