Applications are invited for the open position of NCMM Director. The successful candidate is expected to continue his/her research program with clear relevance to molecular medicine and disease mechanisms and with translational opportunities. The research should consolidate existing research within the Centre by providing natural interfaces for collaboration.

In addition to running an active personal research program, the Centre Director will, together with the NCMM Board and the Assistant Director, as well as with EMBL, be responsible for strategic leadership and international recruitment of Group Leaders. The Director plays a key role in the successful day-to-day operation of the Centre and is expected to continue to develop scientific excellence and cutting-edge infrastructures at NCMM. 

The Director will be offered a permanent contract.

Qualification requirements

The position requires extensive leadership experience in an environment with knowledge-based and innovative tasks. The ideal candidate will have international experience and a proven track-record of strong scientific achievement at the professorial level within the Life Sciences, successful experience in research leadership and research support, with inspiring vision and enthusiastic leadership. He/ she will have the ability to initiate large collaborative projects at international level. Broad scientific competence is an advantage, as well as competence in research policy and successful administrative experience. The ideal candidate has access to an international network of key scientists, and has a proven track-record in acquiring external research funding. Experience from clinical research or translational research close to the clinic will be considered an advantage.

The total core budget for NCMM is roughly 70-75 million NOK (7.4 – 8,0 million Euro) per year. The salary and the budget for the Director’s own research group are separate and negotiable. The position is included in the Norwegian health insurance and retirement pension schemes. To facilitate translation and collaboration, NCMM plans for all group leaders, including the Director, to have adjunct researcher appointments in university hospital departments.

Applicants must be fluent in English as well as be competent in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish. Applicants who lack competency in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish, will be considered but must acquire such competence within two years of appointment.
