NOCC Research Opportunities
Norwegian Centennial Chair (NOCC) aims to promote cooperation in research and academic education between University of Oslo (UiO) and University of Minnesota (UM) by strengthening and expanding existing, and by facilitating new transatlantic collaborations in cutting-edge research.
The NOCC program supports any research but priority will given to areas that are of significance to the strategic priorities of the UiO and UM. Priority areas include:
Robotics & advanced manufacturing
Solutions to environmental challenges
Food safety & security (incl. agriculture, aquaculture)
Discoveries and treatments for brain conditions
Sustainable energy systems
Bio-economy and bio-manufacturing
Informatics & computation in biomedical research (Big Data)
Global and One-Health
Innovation in teaching and learning
Innovation and entrepreneurship
Life science for health and innovation
Solicitation for Transatlantic Research Proposals
A major goal of the project grants is the initiation of innovative and potentially transformative transatlantic collaborations where the partners from the different institutions each contribute complementary expertise critical to the success of the proposed project. Deadline: March 1, 2020.
Norwegian Centennial Travel Fellowships for Ph.D. students and Postdocs
Travel fellowships of up to $5,000 will be available to graduate students and postdocs. Applications will be accepted at any time.
Faculty Travel Awards and Networking Supplements
Limited travel awards are available to cover some costs associated with transatlantic travel.
Proposals for the Development of Transatlantic Workshops
Transatlantic workshops are intended to facilitate new collaborations in research between the universities. Proposals will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis until funding is exhausted.
