About the School of Health Innovation (SHI)

School of Health Innovation aims to couple researchers in the fields of healthcare and life sciences with businesses and teach them practical innovation and entrepreneurship skills.

There is a large untapped potential for innovation and entrepreneurship for students, researchers and other employees.

With this initiative we will try to promote a mindset among students, researcher, clinicians and other employees who can contribute to innovation "in all the ways of life"; in public institutions, in healthcare, in global health and as managers, employees and entrepreneurs in business.

The ultimate aim of the School of Health Innovation is to equip the healthcare researchers with the tools and knowledge to innovate services, create new companies with their research ideas, or bring their research ideas and talent into existing companies.

Collaborations

School of Health Innovation is an initiative by University of Oslo (UiO), NTNU in Trondheim, University of Copenhagen (KU), and Karolinska Institutet (KI) in Stockholm developed in collaboration with Nansen Neuroscience Network. Other collaborators in the business community are Norway Health Tech and Oslo Cancer Cluster. The programme of the School is also developed in collaboration with University of Bergen (UiB) and University of Tromsø (UiT).

Originally established at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Oslo (UiO), the School of Health Innovation is from June 2022 a part of the services provided by the inhouse innovation unit the UiO Growth House which is a collaboration between the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science at UiO.

Methods

Case-based learning is a core part of the programme, and cases are developed in collaboration between the partnering universities and companies presenting in the programme. Project-based learning is another central part of the programme, where the participants are given the opportunity to develop an idea from their own research environment.

Target groups

The School of Health Innovation is a Scandinavian programme open for PhDs and postdocs from the organisers University of Oslo (UiO), the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Karolinska Institutet (KI) in Stockholm and the University of Copenhagen (KU) as well as any other Nordic university.
