Ishita Barua

Ishita Barua is a MD and a PhD Candidate in the Clinical Effectiveness Research Group at the University of Oslo and Oslo University Hospital. Her research focuses on the use of artificial intelligence in colorectal cancer diagnosis and colonoscopy. She is one of the initiators behind and lecturers in the medical elective subject called MED3065: AI, innovation, big data and clinical decision support.
She was awarded the Fulbright Scholarship in 2020, and was a visiting researcher at BIDMC and Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA, in 2021.
She is currently a deputy member of the Norwegian Biotechnology Advisory Board, appointed by the Norwegian government. In 2021, she was named one of top 30 women in Norway changing the field of Artificial Intelligence, by NORA - The Norwegian Artificial Intelligence Research Consortium, and in 2022 she was named one of Norway's leading Tech-Women by Abelia and ODA. She has previously worked as a Resident Doctor in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine, and served as the President of Young Internists of Norway.
