Academic interests
My research interests include the organisation and content of healthcare services, with a focus on decentralised and digital service models, rehabilitation, patient pathways, and user participation. I am particularly interested in person-centred care, the working conditions of healthcare professionals, physical function, fall prevention, active ageing, and informal caregiving. Clinical communication and interdisciplinary simulation are central to promoting collaboration and quality in healthcare services. Additionally, I am engaged in implementation science, process evaluation, and pragmatic studies to ensure that research is translated into effective and sustainable solutions in practice.
Teaching
I supervise master’s and PhD candidates and teach on the Master’s Programme in Health Sciences, specialising in habilitation and rehabilitation, at OsloMet.
Background
I am a senior researcher at the Health Services Research Unit (HØKH) at Akershus University Hospital and hold a 20% position at Department of Public Health and Interdisciplinary Health Sciences, CHARM, at the University of Oslo. I am a trained physiotherapist with a master’s degree in rehabilitation and extensive clinical experience in municipal rehabilitation, particularly focusing on older adults.
In my PhD, I explored user participation in transitional care units through interviews with older adults, their relatives, and interdisciplinary teams, as well as observations of family meetings. I examined how user participation was constructed in practice. In my postdoctoral work, I tested the communication model The Four Habits Model (4HM) to promote user participation in intermediate care units. The model was well received and has since been implemented using a train-the-trainer methodology.
I am the work package leader in the Research Council of Norway-funded project AgePlace, which investigates how municipal healthcare services can support older adults to live safely at home. The project is conducted in collaboration with two boroughs in Oslo, a medium-sized municipality in Innlandet, and a rural municipality in Agder. I have also supervised several PhD candidates on topics such as multimorbidity, the implementation of fall prevention, and the effects of high-intensity aquatic exercise for people with rheumatic and musculoskeletal conditions.
Currently, I am working on developing a concentrated rehabilitation (CON-REHAB) model for COPD patients in collaboration with clinical partners. The model includes digital follow-up with a focus on self-management and the importance of small, daily choices (micro-choices).
Collaborations
In the AgePlace project funded by the Research Council of Norway, I collaborated with OsloMet, the Norwegian Social Research Institute (NOVA), and the Centre for Care Research at NTNU Gjøvik. In CHARM, we collaborate with several user organisations, and CHARM is also a partner in the Norwegian Centre for Digital Technologies in Rehabilitation—a Gemini collaboration between UiO, SINTEF, St. Olavs Hospital, and NTNU.
In the implementation of The Four Habits Model, we collaborated with leading representatives from The Four Habits Model network and the Nursing Home Agency in Oslo. In the CON-REHAB project, we collaborate with the Pulmonary Medicine Outpatient Clinic at Akershus University Hospital and representatives from Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.
