The Nobel Peace Prize 2018 is awarded to Nadia Murad and Dr. Denis Mukwege for their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict. Since the year 2000 coverage of facility delivery and skilled birth attendance increased, while the maternal mortality ratio decreased, at rates slower than hoped for, partially because of inadequate quality of care.
