Benefits and harms of mammography screening

In the past years we have had a heated debate on the benefits and harms of mammography screening. In this review, the authors discuss the benefits and harms in light of findings from randomized trials, and from more recent observational studies performed in the era of modern diagnostics and treatment.

The authors stress the importance of informing about both benefits and harms of mammography screening to the public. This is necessary for women to be able to make an informed choice about screening, and for health care providers to update the screening recommendations of today. The review is published in Breast Cancer Research.
