Virtual Congress Presentation by PhD fellow Chencheng Wang

Chencheng Wang presented his latest research at the International Pancreas & Islet Transplant Association’s 2021 virtual congress (IPITA2021). The presentation was titled: High Glucose Concentration Increases KATP Channel Activity but Suppresses Mitochondrial Respiration Ability in Insulin-producing Cells Regenerated From Stem Cells.

Chencheng with his superviors Hanne Scholz, Shadab Abadpour and Stefan Krauss pointed out that the high glucose concentration used in the differentiation is like a double-edged sword, pushing the maturation of iPSC-derived beta cells; on the other hand, it is harmful to their mitochondrial respiration ability. They will keep working on bypassing the side effects of the latest differentiation formulations and providing bench-to-bed beta cells/islets organoids for research and clinical transplantation
