I attended medical school at the Catholic University in Leuven in Belgium and the University of Oslo. Mental health in children and youth is my specialist field and particular issues related to child abuse and traumatic experiences. I am a specialist in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the subject of my PhD project was post-traumatic stress reactions in children and young people. This topic is central to my research, both in epidemiological studies, clinical research and disaster studies.
I am a research director at the Norwegian Center for Violence and Traumatic Stress Studies and Professor II at the Department of Clinical Medicine.
I am passionate about promoting research in the education of medical students and in research training. This autumn I am therefore standing for election as vice-dean in Team Flinstad Harbo with Hanne Flinstad Harbo as Dean candidate.

Teaching 

Lectures/seminar for the medical studies in the 5th and 6th modules: anxiety and obsessive-compulsive phenomena in childhood. Seminar on trauma in children and young people. Seminar on child abuse. Team based learning about troubled children.

Teaches doctors, psychologists, nurses and other professionals in the subject area of ​​children and traumatic events, child abuse, disasters. Gives lectures at national and international conferences.
