The new Centre for Digital Neurotechnology was established on 7 October 2026. The centre will bring together and strengthen Simula's research on brain function and health, while fostering closer collaboration between technology experts, researchers and medical professionals.

The initiative is partly driven by the significant healthcare challenges associated with brain disorders and neurological conditions. By combining mathematical modelling, artificial intelligence and advanced computing, Simula aims to generate new knowledge and contribute to the development of more precise and personalised healthcare solutions.

Bringing research communities together

Simula has conducted research on the brain and digital technologies for more than a decade. This work includes digital twins, neuroscience, brain-inspired artificial intelligence and technologies that connect the brain to computers.

Until now, the research has been distributed across several departments and research groups. With the new centre, Simula aims to consolidate its expertise, strengthen research collaboration and support further advances in digital neurotechnology.

The centre is led by Marie E. Rognes, with Klas H. Pettersen serving as Deputy Director and Rachel Thomas responsible for strategy and development.
