We consolidate our interdisciplinary research to further bridge the gap between basic and clinical neuroscience.
About our research
Groundbreaking studies from the last ten years have triggered a paradigm shift in our understanding of brain fluids and their interaction with brain tissue.
The brain is cleared during sleep by slow rhythmic waves of a perivascular transport system that acts in concert with lymphatic vessels in the brain meninges.
The discovery of a direct fluid-mediated exchange of immune cells between the brain, meninges and skull bone marrow have also demonstrated an intriguing role of brain fluids in immune surveillance.
Research aims
We further aim to develop new technology for computational modelling at the interface between brain mechanics and neuroscience.
We also aim to develop new technology for computational modelling at the interface between brain mechanics and neuroscience.
Three axes of research
Our activities are centered around three axes of research.
The Clean Brain
To develop personalized precision diagnostics (quantitative imaging and blood-based tools) for neurodegenerative diseases.
The Second Way in
To improve and tailor treatment of brain cancer by establishing methodology for personalized intrathecal drug delivery.
The Perivascular Route
To unravel the underlying mechanisms of brain perivascular waste clearance in health and disease.
