K.G. Jebsen Centre for Influenza Vaccine Research

The centre was established after a generous donation by Stiftelsen Kristian Gerhard Jebsen.

The centre is headed by Professor Bjarne Bogen.

The aim of the centre is to develop a single shot flu vaccine that protects the population against all present and future influenza viruses.

Influenza causes high levels of annual morbidity and mortality in the population.

Current treatments have limited effectiveness, and prophylactic vaccines remain the most important counteractive measure against influenza.

  • arnar PhD dissertation: Arnar Gudjonsson Mar. 22, 2018 1:04 PM

On March 12 th, 2018, Arnar Gudjonsson successfully defended his doctoral thesis entitled: “Improving antibody responses of cDC1 targeted vaccines”. Arnar’s work was supervised by Bjarne Bogen and Even Fossum. Arnar's research has identified a method for directing vaccines specifically to dendritic cells for enhancements of antibody responses after vaccinations of mice. Specifically, targeting of dendritic cells in a way that does not promote rapid uptake and degradation of the vaccine will polarize immune responses towards antibody responses that can protect against influenza infection. This method of targeting may be applicable also to other diseases and vaccine strategies. Congratulations and well done, Arnar!

  • disputas-tka PhD dissertation: Tor Kristian Andersen Mar. 6, 2018 4:29 PM

On March 2 nd 2018, Tor Kristian Andersen successfully defended his thesis for PhD entitled “APC-targeted DNA vaccines against pandemic influenza.” Tor Kristian’s work was supervised by Bjarne Bogen and Gunnveig Grødeland. The thesis covered a study of an APC-targeted DNA vaccine against avian influenza H7 and a mechanistic study of the underlying immunological responses to antigen targeted to antigen presenting cells (APCs). By targeting these essential cells of the immune system, the immune response was enhanced, which could translate to protection against avian influenza H7 in mice. Congratulations and well done, Tor Kristian!

  • jebsensamling-andsnes Meeting with the Norwegian K.G. Jebsen Centres Nov. 2, 2016 12:38 PM

The recent meeting with Stiftelsen Kristian Gerhard Jebsen and the Norwegian K.G. Jebsen Centres displayed excellence in science, music and food. Like science, excellent cooking and piano playing necessitates hard work and passion. So does development of an inspirational haven, as found in Austevoll.
