Oslo-CCHR Lab

We focus on clinical studies, biobanking and molecular analyses of cardiovascular disease patients samples.

Oslo-CCHR-Laboratory is an interdisciplinary medical research group, centrally located within the Department of Cardiology.

About the group

Oslo-CCHR-Laboratory is an interdisciplinary research group with research nurses, a research coordinator, biomedical laboratory scientists and molecular biologists employed as permanent staff. Clinicians and researchers in temporary positions at MD, MSc, PhD and postdoc level are at all times also members or associated members of our group.

We have several rooms dedicated to seeing patients and are centrally located within the Department of Cardiology at Ullevål Hospital.

A central part of our activity is biobanking with standardized procedures for sample collection, processing and storage. We have a well-equipped, in-house laboratory for molecular analyses of biomaterial from patients, and our experienced staff perform translational research of high quality.

Longterm goals

The activity is based on the relatively big patient loops at the Department of Cardiology. We run research projects related to the common diseases of the heart, i.e., myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation, chronic heart disease and heart failure due to ageing, genetics and comorbidities such as diabetes.

Our group runs researcher-initiated clinical studies, and systematically biobank patient material, which is used for clinical and translational cardiovascular disease research.

Research aims

  • To improve the understanding of disease mechanisms and pathogenetic factors, including life style-related factors, and effects of intervention in the treatment of patients with cardiovascular disease
  • To perform translational research of high quality, using new technology and material from our rich biobank
  • To constitute a dynamic research group with highly motivated members, where sense of belonging and joint efforts results in improved scientific development and understanding
  • To run high quality research
  • To perform high quality teaching
  • To develop and train talented researchers in clinical medicine

Results

We produce about three PhDs and 25 research articles published in peer-reviewed, international journals each year.

Projects

All projects are initiated by researchers in our group or in the clinical department, or by collaborators.
