High level delegation visit from Tribhuvan University to the University of Oslo, June 2019

A workshop on the future of higher education in Nepal was organized on the 2nd of June at UiO with the Nepalese students in Oslo. And a whole day seminar in “Global Psychiatry and Global Neurology” was organized by the Centre for Global Health at UiO on 4th of June.

The delegation consisted of Professor Tirtha Raj Khaniya, Vice-chancellor  of TU; Professor Jagdish P. Agrawal, Dean at Institute of Medicine (IOM), TU; Professor Pratap Narayan, Campus Chief at IOM, TU; Professor Saroj P. Ojha, Head of the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health and NORPART project coordinator in Nepal at IOM, TU.

The delegation also had a meeting with Professor Jeanette Magnus who leads the NORPART project between UiO and Jimma University in Etiopia, that focuses on capacity building through developing PhD program. 

On 5th of June, the delegation had a meeting with the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Ivar Galdhaug, Assistant Dean Professor Hilde Irene Nebb and Pro-Dean Jens Petter Berg, at Sogn Arena. The meeting was also attended by the Director of Centre for Global Health, Professor Andrea Winkler, the Managing Director Ingeborg K. Haavardsson, and administrative leader Anette Sørensen from the Division of Mental Health and Substance Abuse, Institute of Clinical Medicine at UiO.

Inroduction of their respective institutions were shared through presentations by the Deans, Heads and the Vice Chancellor. Project coordinator Suraj Thapa presented the NORPART project.

The Dean at Med.Fac. has received an invitation to visit TU next year.

Suraj Thapa, NORPART project coordinator, was awarded a visiting Professorship at IOM, TU.

The delegation had another meeting with Vice Rector, Professor Åse Gornitzka and Senior Officer Tine Tång Engvik at the Rector’s office. Brief introductions of respective Universities including some information about the NORPART project were presented in the meeting. 

TU is a large University in terms of student numbers and coverage across the country, with around 400 000 enrolled students. Both the parties expressed interest and need for future collaborations.

The last evening the delegation had a dinner meeting  with Professor Ingrid Melle who is the head of research at the Division of Mental Health and Substance Abuse, Institute of Clinical medicine, UiO. Detailes on the implementation of the NORPART project and other possible collaborations in future were discussed.
