Knowledge translation in education
Effective knowledge translation is essential for good health care. This group explores factors that impede and facilitate translation processes in healthcare and develops concepts and models to understand, evaluate and facilitate such processes
About the group
This group focuses on knowledge translation (KT) in health policy and practice. Our research spans from theoretical and conceptual analyses to empirical studies of implementation processes.
By investigating ideas and practices of translation in medicine and the humanities we aim to rethink the field of medical humanities. We also develop and expand the understanding and methods of knowledge translation in health care by integrating approaches from natural and human sciences.
A particular focus is the implementation of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This poses challenges of translation including tensions between local and global concerns, as well as potential conflicts between environmental, social and economic dimensions of health.
Main objectives
- Explore possible antagonisms and conflicts between 1) global principles and values (e.g. SDGs), 2) evidence-based medical knowledge and 3) local interests and concerns
- Develop theoretical models and frameworks for understanding knowledge translation, implementation and evidence-based decision making
- Explore core concepts of evidence-based medicine, such as translation, evidence, patient knowledge and clinical judgment
- Examine empirically how knowledge is exchanged horizontally (between professions, specialties and disciplines) and vertically (between primary and secondary care, between academic institutions and clinic and between clinicians and patients )
- Examine how knowledge is exchanged through texts and documents
- Examine the relationship between knowledge management and various forms of power within health care
- Contribute to rethink the field of medical humanities
