Communication and dissemination
You will learn how impact and communication are tied closely together, and you will get several tools on how to reach relevant target groups. We recommend to take the course before the course on writing grant applications, because the content is aligned.

- Introduction to theory and practice of research communication
- Brief introduction to societal impact
- Make plans on communication regarding funding and projects
- Disseminate research through social media
- Be visible in the public dialogue
Expected learning outcomes
During the course you will learn to:
- identify relevant target groups.
- identify a relevant channel for your public outreach.
- make yourself visible in the public dialogue.
- strengthen your pitching skills.
- plan for impactful research communication.
- better understand how to increase the likelihood of making societal impact.

The course will take place at Blindern (Stort møterom, Georg Sverdrups Hus).
Course leaders
Audun Farbrot
Senior advisor strategic communications at The Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO). Audun has more than twenty years of experience as lecturer, public speaker, adviser, mentor and coach in science communication increasing the likelihood of making societal impact. Farbrot is author of three handbooks on science communication. Passionate about helping researchers and experts making a positive difference in the real world.
Thomas Olafsen
Communication leader, Faculty of Medicine, UiO. Experience from Faculty of Medicine since 2013. Research communication, social media, media contact, research administration and ethics. Focus on providing relevant knowledge to help researchers advance in their careers.
Participation
The course consists of seminars and teamwork with individual preparation. By signing up for the course, you are committed to attend the course and do preparatory activities. You must attend at least 80 per cent of the course. Attendance will be registered.
Course fee for participants not employed by MED
Please note that unless you are employed by the Faculty of Medicine, you must confirm that your employer will pay the fee of NOK 2000 for your admission to the course.
