Academic Interest

I am part of Ragnhild Eskeland's chromatin biology group. Here, I study liposarcoma and investigate the complex regulation of gene activity by chromatin structure, histone modifications, and nuclear organization. My work involves employing a variety of bioinformatic techniques to explore the epigenetic mechanisms associated with liposarcomas.

During my PhD, I was part of the adaptation and comparative respiratory group led by Sjannie Lefevre Nilsson (UiO).  My research focused on the remarkable anoxia tolerance of crucian carp, investigating the epigenetic mechanisms that enable their survival in the total absence of oxygen. I utilized a broad array of bioinformatic techniques to identify DNA methylation loci, analyze changes in DNA methyltransferase abundance, and characterize long non-coding RNAs in a genomic context, assessing how these epigenomic components are altered during anoxia and reoxygenation and whether the extensive transcriptional alterations observed are regulated by epigenetic mechanisms. These findings contributed to a deeper understanding of epigenetic processes in low-oxygen conditions, which could help address ischemia-reperfusion injuries and optimize organ transplantation procedures.

I am originally from Germany and have a background in cancer studies, cell and neurobiology. I did my Bachelor and Master degree at the Karlsruher Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany. I combine a broad array of tools in molecular and cellular biology (eg qPCR) and microscopy-based techniques (eg immunohistochemistry) to investigate various levels of biological organization. I am currently acquiring profound skills in bioinformatics, to broaden my set of analytical skills.
