About the group
The research group U-BET (Unifying Behavior, Evidence and Technology) aims to bridge the gap between medical research ("evidence") and human behavior. We work from a humanistic perspective, seeking to understand how doctors and patients think, learn, and make decisions.
In today's healthcare system, it can take years for new research to be implemented in clinical practice. At the same time, trust in science is challenged by disinformation and increasing time pressure. We aim to counteract the risk of losing sight of the human element in the pursuit of data and efficiency.
Our main questions are
- How can insights into human behavior improve the way medical knowledge is developed and shared?
- How can we make medical research more relevant and understandable for those who need to use it?
Research areas and methods
We conduct studies within education, research, and clinical practice. Our work is built on three pillars:
- Knowledge: Ensuring that decisions are based on updated and reliable research.
- Technology: Using digital tools to disseminate knowledge faster.
- Behavior: Understanding what is required for healthcare professionals to change practice and adopt new methods.
Collaboration and tools
To achieve our goals, the research group collaborates closely with the international network and non-profit foundation MAGIC Evidence Ecosystem.
Through this collaboration, UiO gains access to technology, data, and methods that enable us to:
- Develop "living guidelines" that are continuously updated as new research becomes available.
- Create digital decision support tools for clinical consultations.
- Research how immediate access to updated knowledge affects the quality of patient care.
