What criteria are used for selecting the article?

There are no objective criteria for "best article", but the following factors should be considered by the committee:

  • The article must have been published (online and/or in print/pre-print) in 2024. The prize of 100,000 NOK is a research grant for the research group responsible for the project. In addition, the first author will receive a personal prize of 10,000 NOK. It should be an original work where the first author is primarily affiliated with one of the research groups at the Department of Nutrition. The prize can only be awarded to first authors who are master's students, PhD or postdoctoral candidates, or temporarily employed researchers.
  • The same research group cannot receive the prize two years in a row. It is important that the divisions in the department are well represented each year to avoid most winners from one division each year.
  • The article must be published in internationally recognized scientific journals, preferably with a wide readership and great influence.
  • The study should be categorized as nutrition research according to generally accepted criteria. The study should have used good methods, but innovative thinking and originality should be given great importance. The research conducted at the Department of Nutrition includes various types of studies - cell studies, animal studies, clinical studies, nutrition epidemiological studies, and intervention studies. All studies should be evaluated equally.

Otherwise, the following information will be included with the announcement text: Along with the submission of the nominated article, respondents must answer 3 questions:

  1. What was known before the study?
  2. What was found in the study?
  3. What is the significance of the results?

Only one sentence is allowed as an answer to each question.
