Skills Training Centre
The Skills Centre provides medical students at the University of Oslo with opportunities to practice and receive training in essential clinical skills throughout the duration of their studies
The centre is structured so that specially trained medical students deliver courses, which are quality-assured by faculty members at the Faculty of Medicine.
Annually, the centre offers instruction to approximately 2,000 medical students, corresponding to around 450 hours of teaching. A total of 11 courses are provided across modules 2–8, in addition to a revision evening and a mock OSCE examination for final-year students. Of these, 2 courses are compulsory, while the remainder are elective.
Evaluation forms and pedagogical studies are employed to examine how newly established teaching methods influence student learning outcomes. Furthermore, digital learning resources have been developed to accompany all courses.
The centre has also developed ultrasound training for medical students, and approximately 18,000 student visits are registered each year for independent practice.
The Skills Centre is located adjacent to the medical students’ study facilities at Building 10, Gaustad Sykehus and is open from 08:00 to 20:00 for medical students from the third semester onward.
