Experimental Transplantation and Malignancy

Our research group will determine the long term survival in patients with non-resectable liver metastases having a liver transplant.

About the group

The goal is to be able to select a group of patients that obtain 5 year overall survival of at least 75%. Furthermore, we will try to expand the liver donor-pool available for liver transplantation in non resectable colorectal cancer patients.

Long term goals:

  • Increase donor organs available for liver transplantation in colorectal patients with non resectable liver metastases.
  • Establish living donor (liver segment 2+3 donation) program for colorectal cancer patients at OUS.
  • Establish criteria for improved selection of colorectal cancer patients for liver transplantation.

Projects

  • Partial liver transplantation (segment 2+3) in non-resectable colorectal cancer patients
  • Use of extended donor criteria organs for liver transplantation in non resectable colorectal cancer patients
  • Randomized study with  liver transplantation vs chemotherapy in non resectable colorectal cancer patients
