COME INFO

This is a postdoctoral study of how doctors give information to patients.

About the project

The project COME INFO (Communicating medical information to patients: An evidence-based toolbox of strategies) consists of three sub-studies, a literature review, a detailed study of approximately 30 videos with a large exchange of information from 2007-08, and a study where we have collected new data.

An important point in this new study is that both patients and doctors have been interviewed to acquire a more complete picture of the background and consequences of the information behavior we observe.

Objectives

The aim of the study is to identify efficient information giving that improves patients’ ability to remember it.

Project status

The postdoctoral fellow started on 1 December, 2020. The literature review is finished, a review paper and a meta-analysis have been published.

One paper reporting the video study of older videos has been submitted after revision.

Furthermore, new data has been collected in the Women's Clinic, Gastroenterology Department, Orthopedic Clinic and Oncology Department at Akershus University Hospital. Analysis is ongoing. One article has been submitted. The postdoctoral period ends by late spring 2024.

Financing

The Regional Health Trust of Southeast Norway.
