About the speaker

Portrait of Trine RoungeTrine B. Rounge is a professor at the University of Oslo's Bioinformatics in Life Science – BiLS, at the Department of Pharmacy and is also affiliated to the Cancer Registry of Norway, Norwegian Institute of Public Health. With a background in biotechnology and a PhD in microbial genomics, her research focuses on genomics, epigenetics, transcriptomics, and the microbiome, aiming to develop early cancer biomarkers.

Abstract

Early detection of cancer remains a major challenge due to biological noise, natural variation, and uncertainty about disease progression. This talk explores discovery of biomarkers in stool and blood, drawing on insights from CRCbiome, JanusRNA, and HPVseq projects. I will highlight methodological advances (Virmake, Mycobiome, Tameseq, Genomicon-seq), the influence of host factors (sex, alcohol, drugs), and the need for robust validated models to translate early signals into diagnostic tools.

About the seminar series

NCMBM invites guest speakers from the local environment as well as from research centres in Norway to present on topics within molecular life science and medicine.

The seminar is open to all, with no registration needed.
