NCMBM International Seminar: Arafath Kaja Najumudeen

NCMBM, as part of its International Seminar series, will be welcoming Arafath Kaja Najumudeen, from Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) in Helsinki.

He will present his work on "How do cells absorb nutrients? Spatially resolving metabolism of colorectal cancer".

About the speaker

Profile picture of Rafa (dark hair and glasses), wearing a burgundy jumper with a white polo shirt. He is standing in a glass hallway.

Dr. Arafath (Rafa) Najumudeen received his PhD from Åbo Akademi University, studying oncogenic signaling proteins. He did his postdoctoral work in Prof. Owen Sansom’s lab in CRUK Scotland Institute, describing impact of gene dosage and metabolism in colorectal cancer using preclinical mouse models. Rafa is currently a FIMM-EMBL Group Leader and Academy Research Fellow, and his lab focuses on the metabolism of intestinal stem cells and cancer using spatial-omics approaches and preclinical mouse models. He is especially interested in the spatial organization of metabolism in tissues, and it is the focus of his recently awarded ERC Consolidator Grant, on how metabolic specialisation enables stem cells and cancer cells to thrive in demanding tissue environments.

About the seminar series

Once a month, NCMBM invites international guest speakers to present on topics within molecular life science and medicine.

The seminar is open to all, with no registration needed.

Tea, coffee and a simple lunch will be served at 11.30 before the seminar.
