Research interest
Adolescence is a critical and vulnerable developmental period, which is marked by major changes in sleep duration and architecture. Over the past few decades, there has been an alarming decline in the mental well-being of adolescents, with suicide emerging as one of the leading causes of death in this age group.
My research focuses on exploring the potential connection between sleep architecture, particularly Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep, and the onset of depression in adolescents. To this end, I employ an innovative closed-loop optogenetic stimulation method to manipulate REM sleep in adolescent rats, combined with electrophysiological recordings and behavioural assays.
