NORMENT was a Centre of Excellence (CoE) funded by the Research Council of Norway from 2013 to 2023. The centre was based on a collaboration between four partners in Oslo and Bergen: The University of Oslo (host institution), Oslo University Hospital, the University of Bergen, and Haukeland University Hospital.

The overall goal was to find answers to why some people develop severe mental disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Through interdisciplinary research, the centre identified and characterized genetic, neurobiological, psychological, and environmental factors that may contribute to the development and course of such disorders.

NORMENT's research and expertise are being continued at the four partner institutions.

Centre leader: Ole A. Andreassen
