I’m a cofounder and the Coordinator of the Centre for Pandemics and One-Health Research (P1H) and research scientist in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.

Prior to my work with P1H, I worked as a researcher at the Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis (CEES), in the Department of Biosciences, since 2010, so my position represents a close cooperation between the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. At CEES, I developed and led a variety of ecological projects, including working as the Scientific Director of the former Nordic Centre of Excellence NorMER.

My research interests are on the behavioural ecology and population dynamics of species in response to ecosystem variability and anthropogenic impacts. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, I have been working more and more on applying ecological approaches to improving our understanding of disease dynamics.

I have particular interest on the following general topics:

  1. The intersection between biodiversity, climate change, and infectious disease risk.
  2. Adaptation of marine ecosystems in northern seas and assessing impacts from human and environmental pressures.
  3. The importance/relevance of inter-individual signalling on the behavioural ecology of king, emperor, and Adelie penguins.
