Position: Doctoral Research Fellow
Workplace: Department of Community Medicine and Global Health, Institute of Health and Society
Presentation
I wish to join the Faculty Board to help improve the working conditions of temporary staff, which are essential for sustaining high-quality research and education at the Faculty of Medicine.
By background, I am a medical doctor and specialist in community medicine, and I hold a Master’s degree in Public Health (Epidemiology) from the United States. I have been affiliated with the University of Oslo since 2020, first as a lecturer and now as a university research fellow, a position I combine with work in infectious disease control at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH).
I have previously represented the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry in the Student Parliament at the University of Bergen, served as union representative for the Norwegian Medical Association at the NIPH—where I promoted members’ interests in regular meetings with management—and I have represented the NIPH in various national committees.
Key elements of election program
- Good working conditions for temporary employees, for example by avoiding extensive use of short-term contracts and clarifying guidelines for teaching obligations.
- Access to career development opportunities also for temporary staff, such as pedagogical training or supervision courses.
- Allocating time for temporary employees to apply for funding for new research projects.
- Greater recognition of teaching to ensure the continued high quality of the educational programs offered by the Faculty of Medicine.
