Position: Professor
Workplace: Department of Gastrointestinal and Children Surgery, Institute of Clinical Medicine
Presentation
I am a Professor of Surgery at the University of Oslo and a senior consultant at Oslo University Hospital. At UiO, I serve as Academic Head of Gastrointestinal and Paediatric Surgery, Director of Surgical Education, and a member of the Institute Council at the Institute of Clinical Medicine. I also lead the Hepatobiliary Malignancies Research Group at Oslo University Hospital and have completed leadership programmes at Harvard Medical School and UiO. Drawing on my experience in research, education, and academic leadership, I hope to contribute to the continued development of the Faculty, with a particular focus on strong academic communities, engaging education, and opportunities for both staff and students.
Key elements of election programme
- A stronger academic community: Promote good conditions for research and teaching, strengthen collaboration across academic disciplines, and support research careers beyond the PhD through mentoring, grant application support, and research networks.
- Engaging education: Introduce innovative teaching methods and digital tools to make learning more interactive and bring students back to the lecture halls. Ensure equivalent educational quality across all campuses.
- Educating future healthcare professionals: Strengthen practical and interprofessional education, provide more leadership training for medical students, and make clinical specialties more attractive. Promote better alignment between medical student numbers, postgraduate training positions (LIS1), and healthcare workforce needs.
- Research visibility and societal impact: Highlight the Faculty's academic communities, strengthen collaboration across disciplines, and make research findings and expertise more accessible to healthcare professionals and the wider public.
