Dear students

We are already almost at the end of the spring semester, and our work in the dean's office and at the faculty is well underway.

We hope you are up to date on what is happening and get involved in current affairs. It is all of you who are the Faculty of Medicine at UiO, and it is a pleasure to be able to contribute and lead this wonderful team.

Here follows a summary from me both about information channels and meeting places, which we hope will be useful for you.

  • Every other week you can read news from us in the dean's office and from the faculty in the newsletter from the management MED-nytt 2023 (both Norwegian and English versions). The websites for the faculty, departments and units are also continuously updated with news and current affairs.
  • Many issues are posted on the faculty's platforms on Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin and Twitter - follow, like and share! There are also many meetings organized around the world that are advertised in these channels, so attend if you can.

As also discussed in the latest MED-nytt, I would like to invite you to a "Breakfast meeting with the Dean", where current topics can be discussed. Before the summer holidays, there is an opportunity for this between 8 and 9 am on Monday 22 May, Wednesday 31 May or Thursday 8 June by attending the faculty administration, Sogn Arena, 2nd floor. Registration must be sent no later than the week before by filling in this online form: Have breakfast with the Dean

Events

We invite everyone to make time for joint events for the entire Faculty of Medicine, participation preferably in person, but it will also be possible to attend digitally:

  • Sustainability meeting: Tuesday 20 June at 12-4pm you are invited to a meeting at Domus Medica, Runde Auditorium with the theme "How can we all integrate sustainability and global perspectives in research and education?" Former rector Ole Petter Ottersen will begin with "From global health to global restructuring for health", after which representatives from many of our units will answer how they integrate these perspectives into their research and teaching. Sign up and follow updates about the program here (in Norwegian).
  • Ukraine seminar: Thursday 14 September from 10am to 4pm we have reserved the university's beautiful Aula for a large meeting about Ukraine and how Norwegian health personnel can best help Ukrainian war victims. Among many others, Rector Svein Stølen will participate and make a presentation. The initiative is both a declaration of solidarity and a summary of the knowledge base for what we contribute now, and what we can contribute later as part of the Norwegian aid package.
  • “Forskningstorget» for Medical research: On Wednesday 21 September, a medical research “Forskningstorg” will be organized in connection with the Research Days (Forskningsdagene), where you and the public are invited to participate. Keep the date.

The input meeting on teaching, which we originally planned for students and staff on 4 May, unfortunately had to be postponed, as there were several simultaneous events which meant that many could not participate. We will soon return with a new time and updated programme.

I hope to meet you here or there on occasion.

Knowledge for the future's health

The leadership group at the faculty is now working on a draft of the faculty's strategy and action plan for the coming years, and you will soon be asked for input via your leaders. The DNA molecule, which was laid in the foundation stone of the Life Sciences building last Thursday with ministers and directors present, we chose as a greeting from the Faculty of Medicine to put the inscription "Knowledge for the future's health".

Thank you for the great effort you make and good luck with your exams. Wishing you nice days in this lovely spring.

Kind regards, Hanne
