I especially extend a warm welcome to all our new students, as you embark on exciting and significant studies with us. And congratulations to all who have achieved new milestones in both studies and research!

Join us for "Health for Ukraine"

We must all contribute to addressing the significant challenges our society faces. Therefore, we welcome both students and staff from the Faculty of Medicine, as well as interested guests, to the semester start this fall with the event "Health for Ukraine" on September 14th, from 10 AM to 4 PM.

You can find the complete program and register on this website: Health for Ukraine

Let's come together and fill the Aula!

Through this event, we acknowledge the vital role that those of us with knowledge and expertise in health play in assisting Ukrainians during the brutal conflict we find ourselves in. Our researchers, clinicians, and collaborators are already engaged in spreading knowledge, providing expertise, and directly contributing to relief efforts both in Ukraine and for Ukrainian refugees in Europe and Norway. Now, we're gathering essential knowledge and competency networks to share experiences and challenges in this work, so we can learn more about what's needed, what works, and how to carry forth this effort.

We're eager to listen and learn about how mental health is affected by the war, what can be done to maintain a good healthcare system in Ukraine, about relief work in a war zone, medical treatment of war injuries, and the rehabilitation of wounded soldiers. Most importantly, we challenge each other in the concluding panel debate at the end of the day, to chart our path forward: Are we adequately active participants in setting up relief measures for Ukraine, or do we have more to contribute?

Vision, strategy, and annual plan

Your input is welcome. For those of us in the faculty leadership, autumn will also be used to develop an annual plan for the work at the faculty up to 2026. The plan is based on a concise strategy that was formulated during the spring through strong collaboration among institute leaders, units, faculty administration, and the dean's office.

The annual plan work is founded on the faculty's vision for this period: Excellent knowledge for future health.

We have three overarching goals for the faculty:

  1. Educational goal: Provide outstanding health education for a sustainable society.
  2. Innovation and research goal: Facilitate innovation and excellent, relevant, and groundbreaking research.
  3. Personnel and organization goal: Develop employees' roles and competencies in a flexible organization.

All staff and student representatives are now invited to contribute to the annual plan work in collaboration with your leaders and units.

With this, I warmly welcome all of you to a new semester and look forward to much exciting and significant work and collaboration!

Best regards,
Hanne

Hanne Harbo,

Dean and professor
