We want to investigate the functions of extracellular matrix components and proteoglycans in particular in kidney filtration and the role of these glycoconjugates in relation to proteinuria in diabetes.

We want to provide new knowledge on how hyperglycemia affect signal transduction and regulation of biosynthesis of proteoglycans and other matrix components that can affect kidney functions.

To provide new knowledge on the glycobiology of inflammation, obesity and atherosclerosis by focusing on serglycin, a proteoglycan expressed by immune cell and endothelial cells, using serglycin knock-out mice.

To investigate if and the proteoglycans in the syndecan family can be used as clinical markers for early kidney changes in diabetes.

To provide new insight into nutritional challenges for persons with intellectual disabilities.
