The overall goal of our research is to reduce stroke-related death and disability by developing new diagnostic methods and treatment strategies. Factors from the coagulation and fibrinolysis system are at the interface between many interrelated processes and are the focus of our investigations. We are also studying the role of the innate immune system, particularly factors released from injured cells. Furthermore, we are developing new research strategies involving transplantation of brain organoids in rodent brains to study stroke treatment and mechanisms.
