The University of Oslo (UiO) is joining forces with leading universities, research institutions and industry in a major medical initiative to develop countermeasures against the virus that causes the infectious diseases smallpox and mpox.

"If our research one day can provide patients with a better quality of life, alleviate, or cure serious illnesses, it will be truly fantastic," says this year's recipient of one of the University of Oslo's esteemed awards.

The funding goes to two new research projects that will contribute to increased knowledge about early stages of cancer development and new forms of cancer treatment.

The technology, consisting of a designed variant of a natural occurring protein called super albumin, can pave the way for the development of long-acting drugs. This can have major implications for individuals suffering from haemophilia.
