Department of Otorhinolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery (KSM-ØNH)

The department is the largest in Norway, and the only regional department for ENT in the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority.

The department is divided into three specialized sections:

  • Head and neck surgical section, including the Unit for Dental and Jaw
  • Rhinolaryngological section
  • Ear section with the Hearing Center and the Cochlear Implant Unit; CI

We conduct highly specialized treatment, research, and education in head and neck surgery, dental and jaw conditions, ear diseases and audiology, rhinological and laryngological diseases.

The department's research activity is primarily organized into two research groups, each led by a research group leader.

The research activity is partly linked to clinical activities such as CI/audiology, head and neck cancer, and rhinolaryngology, and partly to laboratory and basic research related to the field.

Many research projects are ongoing at all times, including numerous doctoral projects.

The department is responsible for 90% of the ENT teaching at the University of Oslo. Teaching is highly prioritized.
