Collaboration

Here is an overview of our collaboration projects and research groups.

  • Gunhild Mælandsmo, Metastasis Biology and Experimental Therapeutics, Institute of Cancer Research, OUS:
Treatment models related to several clinical neoadjuvant studies.
  • Therese Sørlie, Department of Genetics, Institute of Cancer Research:
Breast tumor initiation studies and molecular analyses of several patient series for better characterization and improved classification of breast cancer including collaboration within the EMIT study.
  • Hege Giercksky Russnes, Unit for Translational Oncopathology, Department of Pathology OUS:
Collaboration related to a number of clinical project during the report period including micrometastasis studies on circulating and disseminated tumor cells, the neoadjuvant studies run by OUS, the EMIT study.
  • Anette Weyergang and Kristian Berg, Department of Radiation Biology, Institute of Cancer Research, OUS:
Collaboration on the identification of a biomarker predictive for effect of trastuzumab-emtasine.
  • Head Kristine Sahlberg, VV Drammen,The Regional Network for Breast Cancer Research /Oslo Breast Cancer Research Consortium:
A collaboration between clinical and translational researchers with a goal of better diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Several projects on the Oslo2 study material.
  • Vessela Kristensen, Department of Medical Genetics:
Studies in patients series of genomic profiling both at the DNA and RNA level for identification of breast cancer characteristics of clinical relevance. Single cell sequencing and CGH analyses of disseminated tumor cells in bone marrow (DTCs) with comparison to the primary tumor to identify and trace the origin of DTCs in breast cancer.
  • Major national collaborators in the EMIT study:
Surgeons, oncologists, pathologists at the following hospitals: Ahus, Vestre Viken, Kalnes sykehus, Sykehuset Innlandet, Sykehuset i Vestfold, Sykehuset Telemark, Sørlandet Sykehus, Stavanger Universitetssykehus, Molde Sykehus, Ålesund Sykehus, St. Olav hospital, NTNU (Trondheim), Nordlandsykehuset, Universitetssykehuset i Nord-Norge, the Cancer Registry of Norway (list of persons may be informed on request).
  • Tone Bathen and Guro Giskeødegård, Cancer Imaging and Multi-Omics Research, NTNU:
Collaboration on metabolomics and multi-omics analysis in patient series for improved classification of breast cancer.
  • Rob Stein, University College London:
Collaboration within the large randomized multicenter trial OPTIMA for (mainly) node-positive breast cancer, using multiparameter gene expression test to optimize personalized treatment answering the question of forgoing chemotherapy for patients with lower risk gene expression profile (OPTIMA study; a part of the EMIT study)
  • Lucy Yates, Welcome Trust Sanger Institute, Hinxton, UK:
LATE project – Characterizing in time and space the metastatic process of hormone receptor positive breast cancer. Collaboration between PI Hege Russnes, Unit for Translational Oncopathology, Sanger Institute and the clinical breast cancer research group.
  • Gordon Mills, Department of Cell, Developmental and Cancer Biology, Oregon Health Science University, Portland:
Collaboration on protein signature to predict response to neoadjuvant treatment with chemotherapy and bevacizumab in HER2-Negative breast cancer.
  • Laura Esserman, University of California San Francisco, USA:
Collaboration on the identification of a biomarker predictive for trastuzumab-emtasine.
  • Johan Vallon-Christersson, Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund University: Collaboration on the expression profiling and clinical characteristics of patients in both the Oslo2 study and in the SCAN-B study.
  • Theodoros Foukakis, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm:
New collaboration on neoadjuvant treatment for HER2-positive breast cancer: A randomized trial of trastuzumab deruxtecan and biology-driven selection of neoadjuvant treatment for HER2-positive breast cancer (ARIADNE study).
  • Research collaboration with industrial partners/collaborators within major investigator initiated clinical trials with OUS as sponsor:
NeoAVA study (Roche collaborator); ongoing NAPEER study (AstraZeneca collaborator).
  • Ana Rita Nobre, The Tisch Cancer Institute, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York and Julio Aguirre Ghiso, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York:
Collaboration on the analysis of disseminating tumor cells in bone marrow and the understanding of what controls tumor dormancy (Nature cancer 2021).
  • The POSITIVE study designed to evaluate the pregnancy outcomes and safety of interrupting endocrine therapy for young women with endocrine responsive breast cancer who desire pregnancy. The study is a collaboration between IBSCG, ALLIANCE ,NCIC and BIG, with OUS as a significant contributor to this study.
