About the group
The research group utilizes nationwide health registry linkages to investigate prevalence, risk factors, and consequences of mental disorders.
To support improved patient care, we also develop prediction tools aimed at clinical implementation.
Aims
The research group’s long-term objective is to establish robust, nationwide registry linkages that enable us to address key questions related to the prevalence of mental disorders, somatic comorbidity, premature death, and violent behaviour.
These linkages include data on up to nine million individuals across several generations, providing unique opportunities to track trends over time and relate these to broader societal changes.
To better understand underlying mechanisms, we investigate the interplay between genetic and environmental factors, as well as potential mediators - drawing on biomarker data from over 800,000 individuals.
In response to growing demands for improved efficiency and patient safety, we are developing prediction tools to estimate the risk of adverse outcomes such as violence, suicide, and somatic comorbidity.
Ultimately, our goal is to implement these tools in clinical practice.
Projects
The group has several projects, both nationwide and international, with various partners.
ForenPsych
A nationwide registry linkage consisting of the National Population Register, the Norwegian Patient Register, and the Criminal Record. The project investigates the connections between violence and mental disorders.
PsykLink
A nationwide registry linkage containing information on mental disorders and somatic diseases from specialized and primary healthcare services, as well as from several health surveys that include relevant biomarkers. The project investigates the connections between mental disorders and somatic diseases.
SOC-MENT
A nationwide registry linkage containing information on mental disorders from specialized and primary healthcare services, as well as from the drug register. The project investigates the connections between mental disorders and sociodemographic factors.
Extreme MDD
An international collaboration project funded by the National Institute of Health and the Research Council of Norway that utilizes Nordic nationwide registry linkages and large, genotyped datasets to identify risk factors that may predict a severe course of depressive disorder.
ComInDepth
A postdoctoral project funded by Østfold Hospital that seeks to identify the causal mechanisms underlying somatic comorbidity in individuals with depressive disorder.
CoMorMent
An international collaboration project funded by the EU that utilizes nationwide registry linkages and large genotyped datasets to identify the underlying mechanisms of somatic comorbidity in mental disorders.
PreVio
A Norwegian collaboration project funded by the Research Council of Norway that examines the connections between violence and mental disorders, in collaboration with representatives from the field of practice. The project employs both nationwide registry linkages (ForenPsych) and qualitative methods.
