About the group

We are primarily focusing on clinical and translational research of patients with silent or functional pituitary adenomas.

Pituitary adenomas

We have over the last 25 years systematically followed patients with pituitary adenomas. We have now a large clinical database, numerous serial MRI scans of the pituitary and body composition measurements by DEXA scan, and a biobank consisting of blood samples and tumor biopsies.

Through immune histochemical and molecular genetic examination of tumour tissue together with imaging methods we are searching for markers for prognosis, growth and complications of pituitary adenomas. In addition, we aim to identify biomarkers of disease activity and cardiometabolic risk.

We are looking for markers for prognosis, aiming at offering personalized treatment and follow up in a lifetime perspective.

Collaboration and academic activity

We are working in close collaboration with the neurosurgeons, radiologists, oncologists, ophthalmologists, pathologists and representatives from two patient organizations.
We are aiming at having 2–5 ongoing PhD projects at any time.

Research on adrenal diseases

In collaboration with Haukeland University Hospital, we include patients with primary adrenal deficiency and primary hyperaldosteronism into national health registries.
Aims are to understand the mechanisms behind the diseases and to improve treatment and follow up of the patients.

For the patients with adrenal diseases we are aiming at more rational investigations of the patients and for an individual approach in the therapy.

Projects

Here is an overview of our current projects:

  • Towards an individualized follow-up for Non-Functioning Pituitary Adenomas
  • 10 year follow up of non-functioning pituitary adenoma, markers for prognosis
  • Molecular characteristics of corticotroph adenomas
  • Biomarkers for disease activity and cardiometabolic risk in acromegaly
