Increased knowledge of abdominal pain after bariatric surgery is important in giving advice preoperatively, but also improves the follow-up of the patients experiencing these symptoms.

About the project

Our previous studies have shown that around one third of the patients experience chronic abdominal pain after surgery. There are several factors related to this prevalence, leading to reduced quality of life in these patients. We have studied abdominal pain after gastric bypass and sleeve and have expanded our research to the patient group operated by one-anastomosis gastric bypass.

Long-term goals

  • To continue research on abdominal pain after bariatric surgery, especially in time of new weight-loss medications, used both before and after bariatric surgery.
  • Expand the research to other surgical procedures for weight loss, and contribute to future PhD-projects.
