Morbid Obesity

The group evaluates several short and long term aspects of bariatric surgery. We especially focus abdominal symptoms and long-term outcome for the patients.

The group also participates in trials comparing different surgical methods of bariatric surgery.

About the group

The main research topics for the research group include evaluation and documentation of a variety of outcome measures both those that are beneficial to somatic health, psychological aspects and quality of life, but also adverse effects of the surgery in this regard.

The group also aims to participate in randomized controlled trials comparing different surgical methods in regard to optimizing choice of procedure and outcome for the individual patient. A long term ambition is to embark on translational research including studies focusing on inflammation and obesity.

Our group includes surgeons, internists, researchers, clinical dieticians, dedicated nurses and psychologists.

Main research focuses include

•    Evaluation of long term treatment outcome including adverse effects – a main topic has been evaluation of abdominal symptoms post surgery
•    Different surgical techniques for the treatment of superobesity
•    Metabolism and inflammation
